Singer-songwriter and author Amy Rigby sings, talks and signs her memoir 'Girl to Country' in conversation with Chad Radford.
Amy Rigby is coming to Criminal Records on Saturday, October 24, for a book talk and a live set. She'll be in conversation with Chad Radford, talking through her new memoir, Girl to Country, and singing a few songs. The Atlanta stop is presented by A Cappella Books.
Rigby is a singer-songwriter and author who's spent decades as an underground and indie cult figure. She cut her teeth fronting the bands Last Roundup and the Shams in New York City's East Village before going solo with Diary of a Mod Housewife in 1996. Her music has kept a steady following ever since, and her 2024 album Hang In There With Me was called an absolute masterpiece by Louder Than War. These days she lives in England and is married to (Wreckless) Eric Goulden, with whom she often records and plays gigs, though she continues to work as a solo artist and writes the Diary of Amy Rigby newsletter on Substack.
Girl to Country is her second memoir. It follows Girl to City, which chronicled her struggle to get a foothold in New York's indie scene in the late 1970s and '80s. This one picks up where that left off, tracing her move to Nashville and how she navigated music, men, and motherhood there. The event combines the two sides of her work: she'll talk about the book with Radford, perform a live set, and sign copies of the memoir afterward.
