Hands-on jewellery-making workshop led by local maker Aubin Stewart, turning salvaged materials into bold, colourful pieces with no prior experience needed.
Aubin Stewart is leading a jewellery making workshop at Aberdeen Art Gallery on Saturday 24 October, from 2.00pm to 4.00pm. Stewart is a local maker, and the session is built around the idea of the art of adornment: taking salvaged materials and turning them into bold, colourful jewellery. You don't need any prior experience to join in, and everyone leaves with a unique piece to wear and treasure.
The setting is as much a part of the afternoon as the making. Aberdeen Art Gallery is a neo-classical building designed by Alexander Marshall Mackenzie and opened in 1885, and it houses one of the country's finest collections, spanning more than 700 years of art. Between 2015 and 2019 it went through a major redevelopment led by Hoskins Architects, and it's now home to the Cowdray Hall concert venue and the Remembrance Hall. Its collection is a Recognised Collection of National Significance, and the gallery was named Art Fund Museum of the Year in 2020.
