Storytellers Kirsten Milliken and Peter Chand blend Indian and Scottish traditions of story and song to explore universal human themes.
Kirsten Milliken and Peter Chand bring their storytelling piece State of Water to The Sir Duncan Rice Library on Tuesday 27 October, from 18:30 to 19:30. It's hosted by the Elphinstone Institute, and it sits within two festivals at once: the Scottish International Storytelling Festival's Go Local programme and the Aberdeen and Beyond Storytelling Festival.
Milliken and Chand each come from different storytelling traditions — Scottish and Indian — and State of Water is what happens when they bring them together. It's a blend of story and song, with the two traditions woven through rather than sitting side by side. The whole thing is built around water: lake nymphs, enchanted waves, hidden realms, and the waters that connect us all run through the material, and the two of them use that to look at universal human themes. It's a crafted piece of work, so it's less a loose collection of tales and more a single, considered performance.
