Free creative music-making session for young instrumentalists aged 12-18, led by harpist and composer Rachel Groves, to co-compose a new piece.
Get Creative Ensemble is back at King's Pavilion on Sunday 22 November, from 1.30pm to 4pm. It's a session for young instrumentalists aged 12-18 (S1-S6), led by harpist and composer Rachel Groves, with support from musicians from Any Enemy, Aberdeen's new music ensemble. The session is free.
To get where this fits, it helps to know the wider picture. Get Creative is a music-making programme for young people across North East Scotland, aged 8-18, run by sound in Aberdeen. It brings together performance and composition workshops led by professional composers and musicians. The Creative Ensemble is its mixed-instrumentation, mixed-ability strand for the 12-18 age group. Rather than working through a set list of existing pieces, the ensemble works through improvisation and creative playing to co-compose a new piece of music over the course of the year. New members are welcome to join at any time, so you don't need to have been there since the start to get involved.
Each session closes with a sharing for family and friends at 3.45pm, so if you're bringing someone along to listen, that's the time to keep in mind. The wider programme is supported by Creative Scotland, Aberdeen City Council, the David and June Gordon Memorial Trust, the Educational Institute of Scotland, Aberdeen Endowments Trust, the Bliss Trust and the Samuel Gardner Memorial Trust.
