Stand-up show in which Gary Meikle shares a new combination of stories, opinions and observations about himself, his family and the audience.
Gary Meikle is back at The Tivoli Theatre on Sunday 22 November with Yer Maw, a new stand-up show that he says has become something of a yearly norm for him. He writes the material himself, and he's open about the process: he admits that each year he has to sit and write a blurb before he even knows which stories he'll end up sharing on stage.
The show runs about 80 to 90 minutes and brings together a brand-new combination of stories, opinions and observations about himself, his family and the audience. It usually centres on people and the mad things they do — sometimes animals too, but more often the stupid scenarios people find themselves in. He promises it'll contain at least one 'yer maw' joke, and he notes that the show is not suitable for small people.
It's a solo turn, with Meikle as the only name on the bill. The set is built around his own writing, so it's his voice and his stories from start to finish. If you've seen him before, this is a new run of material rather than a best-of, and the 80-to-90-minute length gives him plenty of room to work through those observations about family and the general oddness of people.
