Family-friendly promenade concert by Lydenskab Ensemble that takes place around the Aberdeen Maritime Museum during Sound Festival.
Lydenskab Ensemble are taking over the Aberdeen Maritime Museum on Saturday 24 October for the Family Promenade Concert, part of this year's soundfestival. It's a morning session, running from 10.30am to 11.30am, and it's built for families.
The format is what gives it the name: rather than sitting in one room for the whole thing, you move through the museum, following the music from one space to another. It's a relaxed, informal way of doing a concert, and it's designed to be accessible for all ages, so it's as much for the kids as it is for the adults.
The concert is one of the family-friendly offerings within soundfestival, which returns to Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire from 22 to 31 October. This year's edition is co-curated by composer and conductor Pete Stollery and directed by Fiona Robertson, and it's built around the theme of attentive listening — an invitation to slow down and treat listening as an active, shared experience. The festival is one of Europe's leading celebrations of new music, and it's described as Northeast Scotland's 'generous, all-inclusive' festival.

Beyond the usual venues like The Lemon Tree, Cowdray Hall and King's Pavilion, the 2026 programme pushes out into the streets with sound walks, street performances and even an event in a former nuclear bunker. The Family Promenade Concert is just one part of that, alongside family events, nature walks, workshops and composer sessions spread across the ten days. The ensemble playing at the museum is Lydenskab Ensemble, and the session runs from 10.30am to 11.30am on Saturday 24 October at the Aberdeen Maritime Museum, 52-56 Shiprow, AB11 5BY. It's pay what you can.
