DanceLive work-in-progress show for early years children and families about Lilian Bland, the first woman to design, build and fly her own aeroplane, with an interactive workshop.
DanceLive brings May Fly / May Not to the Aberdeen Art Gallery and Museums on Sunday 18 October, from 2.30pm to 3.30pm. It's a work-in-progress show, which means it's still being developed, and it's aimed at early years children and their families.
The story follows Lilian Bland, the first woman in the world to design, build and fly her own aeroplane. It's a local connection worth remembering: Bland was a pioneer who didn't just dream about flight but actually got herself into the air. The performance tells her story by combining movement and storytelling, so it's as much about watching the action as it is about listening to the tale.
What makes this one a bit different from a standard show is how it ends. Once the performance is over, it opens up into an interactive workshop where families are invited to play and be creative together. It's a good way to let the kids stretch their legs and get involved after sitting through the first half, and it turns the whole thing into something you do with them rather than just something you watch.
