Immersive, multi-sensory dance piece by Elisabeth Schilling & Company in which plants are the protagonists, within the DanceLive festival.
Elisabeth Schilling & Company bring Sensorial Symphonies to Cowdray Hall on Sunday 18 October, as part of the DanceLive festival. It's a multi-sensory dance piece that puts plants centre stage, treating them as active protagonists rather than just decorative set dressing. The choreography focuses on their interconnected systems, their symbiotic relationships, and their adaptability, and it asks the audience to think about our own place in that shared ecological web. There's a specific philosophical thread running through it too: it challenges Aristotle's legacy of placing plants on the lowest rung of being.
The music is a reimagining of Sergei Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No. 2, reworked by Pascal Schumacher and combined with the organic sounds of The Plant Philharmonic. The piece was staged by Associate Artist Elisabeth Schilling, of Les Théâtres de la Ville de Luxembourg, and commissioned by Théâtre de la Ville de Luxembourg. It's a co-production between Elisabeth Schilling & Company and United Instruments of Lucilin, with support from Creative Scotland's Expanded Festivals Fund.
