Contemporary dance duet 'Grace' by Errol White and Davina Givan, inspired by Paula Rego's 'Angel', at the Aberdeen Art Gallery.
White & Givan bring their new duet Grace to the Aberdeen Art Gallery on Saturday 17 October, as part of DanceLive 2026. It's a piece for two, performed by Errol White and Davina Givan, both award-winning dancers and choreographers who've built it around the interplay of strength and vulnerability, protection and transformation.
The title comes from the Latin origin of the word grace — charm, goodness and generosity — and the image of a guardian angel. From there, the work unfolds like wings in motion, taking its cue from Paula Rego's haunting portrait Angel. White and Givan frame grace as something that lives inside each of us, regardless of faith or background, and suggest that even for those who don't identify with religion, the idea of angels can be a reassuring and consoling thought.
Grace was made with support from Creative Scotland and comes to the festival through the Creative Scotland Expanded Festivals Fund. It's one of the works in DanceLive 2026, which Citymoves is running across the Anatomy Rooms, Aberdeen Art Gallery, Cowdray Hall and Bon Accord Baths. This is the festival's fifth edition, marking its 20th anniversary.
