Annual conference of the British Society of Soil Science, with keynote speakers across the built, natural and agricultural sectors, themed 'Soils at the Centre of Change'.
The British Society of Soil Science is bringing its annual conference to Aberdeen from Tuesday 1st to Friday 4th December 2026, at the King's Conference Centre within the University of Aberdeen. It's a multi-disciplinary gathering, which is a polite way of saying it pulls together people from three very different worlds: the built environment, the natural environment, and the agricultural sector. The whole point is to get the latest research and developments in soil science into one room, and this year the University of Aberdeen is hosting.
The theme for this edition is Soils at the Centre of Change: Innovation, Adaptation and Action. It's a broad one, and it fits the multi-disciplinary side of things: the built environment covers the ground we build on, the natural environment looks at wild landscapes, and the agricultural sector is all about the land we farm. The programme is built around keynote speakers and experts across the days, so you'll hear from people working in each of those areas rather than just one. The full programme hasn't been released yet, but that's the shape of it.
Every week we pick 🏆 the 5 best 🏆 things to do in Aberdeen and send them to your inbox. Just one weekly email, no spam.

It's hosted by the university's CPD & Event Services, and since it runs from Tuesday through Friday, it's a four-day affair rather than a one-off. If you're into soil science, it's a good chance to see how the research is playing out across different sectors in one go. The dates are Tuesday 1st to Friday 4th December 2026, at the King's Conference Centre, University of Aberdeen.
