York Maze is hosting a rather singular sight this Saturday 1 August: a Yorkshireman diving into a giant Yorkshire pudding. It's part of the city's Yorkshire Day celebrations, and the whole thing is built around a few very specific, very local food references.
The act starts with a Yorkshireman walking a narrow beam stretched over a giant Lancashire hotpot. From there, he makes the leap into a six-foot Yorkshire pudding filled with gravy. It's a long way down into a lot of gravy, and the hotpot sits right beneath him while he's on the beam, so there's a bit of a gap to clear before he hits the pudding.
It's a stunt that leans hard into the region's culinary stereotypes — the hotpot, the pudding, the gravy — and puts them on a scale that doesn't usually happen outside of a kitchen. The whole thing is being held at York Maze, just outside the city, as part of the wider Yorkshire Day celebrations on the 1st.
