The ambitious 2026 season at York Theatre Royal, featuring world premieres, musical revivals, and the family pantomima 'Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs'.
York Theatre Royal has just put its full 2026 season on the board, and it's a big one. They're calling it their most ambitious year yet, and looking at the spread, it's easy to see why. There's a world premiere, a Broadway revival, a Gary Oldman turn, and the usual panto to wrap it all up.

Things kick off in February with The Last Picture, a new play by Catherine Dyson directed by John R. Wilkinson, which runs in the studio space. Spring brings the Broadway musical The Secret Garden back to the main stage, directed and designed by Tony winner John Doyle. April is when the big premiere arrives: The Psychic, a thriller by Jeremy Dyson and Andy Nyman, with previews starting on 29 April and running through to 23 May. In May, Krapp's Last Tape starring Gary Oldman moves on to the Royal Court in London.
Autumn sees the YTR youth company return to the main stage with Wendy & Peter Pan by Ella Hickson, directed by Lydia Crosland and Sophie-Jade Howell. On the dance side, there's the world premiere of Interplay from Phoenix Dance Theatre and Hofesh Shechter's IN THE BRAIN performed in full. The Royal Shakespeare Company also visits twice during the year.
And then there's the panto. Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs closes the season, with Robin Simpson as the Dame, written by Paul Hendy and directed by Juliet Forster. It's the family favourite they do every year, so that's the one to get the kids to. The theatre is at St Leonard's Place, YO1 7HD, with a 750-seat house, and it's a ticketed venue throughout. If you're planning your year, it's worth checking the full run of dates on their site.
