A popular Christmas market-style fair at the York Steiner School where the school community crafts, sings, sews and bakes in preparation for the festive season.
York Steiner School is holding its Advent Fair on Saturday 21 November, from 10am to 4pm at the school on Fulford Cross, YO10 4PB. It's a Christmas market run by the school community, and over the years it's grown into one of the biggest and most popular of its kind in York.
What makes it different from a standard high street market is where the stuff comes from. The school community spends the months leading up to the fair crafting, singing, sewing and baking, so the stalls are filled with things made by the people who run the place. It's a proper community effort rather than a collection of outside traders, and that's a good thing to keep in mind when you're browsing. If you're looking for gifts that aren't just off a shelf, this is the kind of place you'll find them.

It's a full day, running from 10am right through to 4pm, so there's plenty of time to wander around without rushing. If you're coming from the city centre, it's over at Fulford Cross, YO10 4PB, so you'll want to leave a bit of time to get out to the school. It's a Saturday, and it's one of the bigger Christmas markets in the city, so it's the sort of thing you can make a proper morning or afternoon of.
