York's largest car boot fair held at the racecourse, with free admission for the public.
York Racecourse hosts its car boot sale this Saturday 29 August, one of the many dates it runs throughout the season. It's billed as York's largest car boot fair, and it takes over the racecourse every Saturday from 28 March right through to 31 October, except on racing Saturdays when the track takes precedence. The whole thing is run by K & J Brown Promotions, with Kevin Brown — who also runs the site's antique fairs — as the named contact.
If you're thinking of selling, the gates open early: sellers are advised to arrive between 7.00am and 7.30am to get a good spot. The car boot itself finishes at 1.00pm, and all sellers need to be off the site by 2.00pm, so it's a morning and early afternoon affair rather than a full day. For those just coming to browse, admission is free for the boot sale, and there's free car parking after 8.00am. Refreshments are available on site, and there are toilets in the grandstand area, so you can spend a few hours poking through the stalls without having to head back to the car for a break.

It's a regular part of the city's Saturday morning for a good stretch of the year, though it's worth double-checking the calendar if you're planning ahead: it doesn't run on racing Saturdays, which this season include 23 May, 13 and 27 June, 11 and 25 July, 22 August and 10 October. The venue is York Racecourse, York YO23 1EX, and as mentioned, it's free to enter for the public.
