York Racecourse Car Boot Sale

York Racecourse hosts one of the area's largest outdoor car boot sales, run by K & J Brown Promotions. It's a regular fixture on the calendar, taking place every Saturday from 28 March to 31 October 2026, except on racing Saturdays — so if you're planning a trip, keep in mind it doesn't run on 23 May, 13 and 27 June, 11 and 25 July, 22 August, or 10 October. The sale is at the racecourse on Knavesmire Road, YO23 1EX.

For those coming to sell, the morning starts early: set-up is between 7.00 and 7.30am, and the sale closes at 1.00pm, with all sellers off-site by 2.00pm. There's no advance booking required, so you just turn up with your car. The organisers describe it as a chance to turn unwanted or unused items into good money, and they point to press reviews in the Daily Express and in Stephen Wells' Source Vintage as a nod to the following it draws. Beyond the boot sale, the team runs antique fairs at the racecourse and publishes a beginners' guide to car booting for newcomers.

If you're coming to browse, admission is free, and there's free car parking after 8am. Refreshments and toilets are on-site throughout the day, so you can settle in for a proper morning of digging through the boots. For sellers, cars are £15, vans start from £18, and trailers from £3.
