York Printmakers Print Fair

York Printmakers are back with their annual print fair, this time taking over the Chapel and Harriet Room at York Cemetery from Saturday 19 to Sunday 20 September. It's their big yearly gathering, and the numbers this time around are worth noting: more than 20 printmakers showing together under one roof, with original linocuts, etchings and wood engravings on the walls.

If you're not familiar with the group, they're a broad church of printmakers working across Yorkshire and beyond, with members ranging from art students to professional artists. The work they do is all original printmaking, not mass-produced digital prints like giclées. They work with linocut and woodcut, collagraphy, screen printing and etching to produce either unique prints or limited editions, all printed by hand. The styles run the full length from the illustrative to the abstract, so you'll find a good mix of things to look at.

One of the best bits about the fair is that the artists are there in person. You can chat with them about how their prints are actually made, which is half the appeal if you've ever wondered what goes into a linocut or an etching. It's a chance to see the process behind the work rather than just the finished piece on the wall.

The fair has been featured in The York Press and on That's York TV (Channel 8), so it's a well-known fixture on the city's art calendar.
