Tenth anniversary of York Disability Week, a week-long programme celebrating the United Nations International Day of Persons with Disabilities with talks, workshops, sessions and exhibitions.
York Disability Week returns to York from Saturday 28 November to Saturday 5 December 2026. It's a week-long programme that celebrates the United Nations International Day of Persons with Disabilities, which falls on 3 December each year during Disability History Month. This year marks the tenth edition, so it's been running for a decade now.
The whole thing is built by volunteers: a group of individuals and organisations from across the city, supported by the York Human Rights City Network, who give up their time to put it together. The line-up usually pulls in talks, workshops, musical events, creative sessions, advice and support hours, and exhibitions. From there it stretches out to sport and exercise taster sessions and an Information Fair where statutory and voluntary organisations set up stalls. It's a broad mix, so you can pick and choose what suits you rather than feeling you have to do the whole thing.
Accessibility is a big part of how it's run. The programmes are printed in Easy Read, large print, and braille, so you can get the full run-down in the format that works for you. The week gets financial support from the City of York Council and the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, and it also awards small grants to help with access and operating costs.
Every week we pick 🏆 the 5 best 🏆 things to do in York and send them to your inbox. Just one weekly email, no spam.
