A magical retelling of J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan, featuring Wendy Darling as a brave leader, performed by the York Theatre Royal Youth Theatre.
Wendy & Peter Pan runs from 3 to 5 September at the York Theatre Royal, with the production taking place in the Main House on Saint Leonard's Place. It's a new take on J.M. Barrie's Peter Pan, written by Ella Hickson and brought to the stage by the York Theatre Royal Youth Theatre.
If you know the original story, you'll recognise the broad strokes, but Hickson's adaptation shifts the focus. Wendy Darling steps forward as a brave and strong leader, rather than just the girl who looks after everyone else. In this version, she's the one guiding the rebellious Lost Boys, going toe-to-toe with Captain Hook, and working to restore her parents' lost happiness. The narrative also introduces a 'sassy, gold hoop earring wearing' fairy named Tink, who adds her own spin to the role of Tinker Bell.
