Out of Character Theatre Company performs Jim Cartwright's play 'Two', a poignant and humorous portrait of life in a Northern English pub.
Out of Character Theatre Company are bringing Two to The Crescent Community Venue this July, with performances running from Tuesday 21 to Thursday 27. It's a play by Jim Cartwright, set in a Northern pub, and it's exactly the kind of thing that works best in a room like The Crescent.
The play is a portrait of life behind the bar on a busy night, and it's Cartwright at his most recognisable: sharp, funny, and deeply moving. The action unfolds across a single evening, and the story comes through the regulars who drift in and out. You get a look at their lives through the tales they tell, with the pub landlord and landlady at the centre, and the bouncers keeping things in order. It's a slice of pub life that balances the laughs with a fair bit of heartbreak, and it doesn't shy away from the rougher edges of the people who inhabit it.
Out of Character is a York-based theatre company and registered charity, and they've built their work around a specific goal: making theatre that challenges how we think about mental health through storytelling. This production is directed by Kate Veysey.

There are four performances in total. The first is on Tuesday 21 July, 7:00-9:00 pm. On Saturday 26 July, there's a matinee from 2:00-4:00 pm and an evening show from 7:00-9:00 pm. The final performance is on Sunday 27 July, 7:00-9:00 pm. Tickets are £10 plus booking fees.
