Trick or Treat Chocolate Bar Making Workshop

York Cocoa Works is running Halloween-themed chocolate bar making workshops throughout the autumn half term, from 9 October to 2 November. The whole thing takes place in the Academy, the chocolate house's working room, so you're right in the middle of where the chocolate is actually made. The sessions run daily, with five slots to choose from: 10.00am, 11.30am, 1.30pm, 2.30pm and 4.00pm.

Each session walks you through the basics before you get stuck in. You'll hear about where cocoa comes from and how the chocolate is made on site, and you'll learn how to work with tempered milk and dark chocolate. Once you've got the hang of it, you'll mould, flavour and decorate your own 150g Halloween bar, full of tricks or treats, to take home. It's a proper hands-on bit of making rather than just watching someone else do it.

There's a bit of local pride woven in, too. York claims the city is home to some of the world's most famous chocolate bars and brands, and the workshop leans into that heritage with its seasonal theme. It's a nice way to spend a half-term morning or afternoon, especially if you've got kids to keep busy or just fancy spending a few hours in a working chocolate house.

It costs £26.50 per participant, and with five sessions running every day from 9 October to 2 November, you can pick the time that fits your half-term plans best.
