Workshop to design and print a two-colour one-page zine using Risograph printing methods at Thin Ice Press.
Thin Ice Press is running a one-page Riso zine workshop on Sunday 12 July, from 10:00 to 13:00. Over the course of the morning, you'll design and print a single-page zine in two colours, and you'll take it home with you when you're finished.

It's not just about the printing, though. The session covers the culture of zines and the history of the Risograph — the high-speed digital duplicator that gives Riso its distinct look — alongside the practical side of designing for analogue printing. If you've never made a zine before, it's a good place to start: you'll learn how to layout your work and how to think in layers of colour, and you'll walk away with something you've actually made. It's aimed at beginners and anyone with a passing interest in analogue print.
The workshop is held at Thin Ice Press: the York Centre for Print, which is tucked away in the garden of St Anthony's Hall on Peasholme Green (YO1 7PW), just under the city walls. It's a working print shop, a museum, and a gallery all in one, dedicated to traditional printing. The Riso workshop is just one of what they do there — they also run sessions in letterpress, linocut, and bookbinding, and they offer memberships and equipment hire for those who want to keep printing on their own. The shop and gallery are open for free visits, so if you're in the area, you can pop in and see the presses in action without booking anything.
The zine workshop runs from 10:00 to 13:00 on Sunday 12 July, so you're done by lunchtime. It's a paid session, and you can find the booking details on the Thin Ice Press website.
