A hands-on demonstration and tasting session exploring the history of drinking chocolate, from its South American roots to Georgian traditions and modern manufacturing at York Cocoa Works.
York Cocoa Works is running a tasting session called The Making of Drinking Chocolate on Monday 21 September, as part of the York Food and Drink Festival. It's a tour through the history of drinking chocolate, starting with its South American roots, its arrival in Europe, and the Georgian drinking traditions that followed. From there it moves to chocolate manufacturing in York, and the hot chocolate still crafted at York Cocoa Works today. It's a hands-on demonstration and tasting that looks at chocolate across centuries and civilisations.
York Cocoa Works is the company's Chocolate Manufactory, and it sits alongside their Chocolate Cafe and chocolate emporium in the heart of the city. They describe themselves as the home of chocolate, and this session is one of the workshops they're hosting during the festival. The York Food and Drink Festival itself runs from 18 to 27 September, so there's plenty more to work your way through if you're out for the whole thing.
