An intimate wine pairing masterclass featuring six selected wines, a Michelin-starred tasting menu for two, and an overnight stay at The Black Swan at Oldstead.
The Art of Wine Pairing comes to The Black Swan at Oldstead on Friday 9 October, as part of The Oldstead Wine Series. It's one of four intimate masterclasses the hotel is running, designed to take you beyond the dining room and into the cellar. The series brings together the wine cellar, the kitchen and the house approach to flavour, with each date exploring a different theme.
This particular session is the pairing one, and it's just one stop in a wider sequence. Other dates in the series look at the flavours of Oldstead and the regions, producers and terroirs of South Africa. The whole thing builds towards The Judgement of Oldstead, a blind tasting inspired by the legendary Judgement of Paris of 1976 that pits Old World against New World wines. If you're into wine, it's a proper progression rather than a one-off.
Every experience in the series follows the same format. The evening starts in the downstairs bar, where the Sommelier guides you through six carefully selected wines. From there, it's a Michelin-starred tasting menu for two, followed by an overnight stay and an Oldstead breakfast the next morning. It's a full-wrap experience—the tasting, the dinner, the room and the breakfast all in one go.
