A musical comedy featuring the kooky Addams family, presented by Wharfemede Productions at Theatre@41.
The Addams Family Musical runs at Theatre@41 on Monkgate from 27 to 31 October, right in the middle of Halloween week. It's a musical comedy that brings the kooky Addams family to the stage, and the timing fits the spooky season perfectly. The story kicks off when Wednesday Addams falls for a 'normal' young man and invites her respectable parents to dinner, which sets off a chain of chaos, secrets, and the kind of macabre madness the family is known for.
It's an amateur production by Wharfemede Productions, a North Yorkshire company co-founded by artistic director Helen “Bells” Spencer and operations director Nick Sephton. They've been around for three years now, focusing on high-quality musical theatre, with Little Women and A Little Night Music as their previous shows. For this one, Spencer is bringing in elements of commedia dell’arte to lean into the physical comedy and the theatricality of the whole thing.
The cast is a full house. Zander Fick takes on Gomez, with Henrietta Linnemann as Morticia, Abbie Law as Wednesday, Matthew Warry as Pugsley, Nick Sephton as Fester, Rosy Rowley as Grandma, and Chris Gibson as Lurch. The Beineke family is played by Steven Jobson, Connie Howcroft, and Dan Crawfurd-Porter. There's also a whole chorus of ghostly ancestors: Adela Barrett, Benedict Merry, Catherine Foster, David Copley-Martin, Freya McIntosh, Madeleine Jones, Rachel Merry, and Rianna Louise. A nine-piece band provides the music live.
