Movement and dance workshops exploring the ecology and folklore of Yorkshire Wolds chalk streams, aimed at young adults aged 18-35.
Step Into The Water is a series of movement and dance workshops running at York Theatre Royal this July, with sessions on the 13th, 20th and 27th, all starting at 6.30pm. They're held in The Billiard Room, and they're free to take part in.
The workshops are led by York dance legend Christie Barnes and Futureproof team member Maddy Winter. The sessions look at the formation, ecology and folklore of the Yorkshire Wolds chalk streams, and they'll guide you to move through different lifeforms and ecosystems. It's a chance to get moving and think about the natural world around us, and you don't need any previous dance experience to join in.
This is part of a series of creative events organised by Futureproof, which is aimed at 18-35 year olds in York who want to experience theatre for the first time. The Futureproof Team is a group of people from various creative backgrounds brought together by The York Theatre Royal to explore how people connect to theatre and what its future looks like. If you're in that age group and have never really stepped inside a theatre before, this is a low-pressure way to get involved.

There's also an optional celebratory performance on 8 August at the Opposites Attract scratch night, so if you fancy it, you can take what you've worked on and show it on stage. The workshops run on 13, 20 and 27 July at 6.30pm in The Billiard Room at York Theatre Royal, and they're free.
