A speed quizzing session hosted by Alan Leach with prizes, beer and a £2 entry fee.
SpeedQuizzing is coming to The Ackhorne on Thursday 17 September, with the session running from 8:00pm to 11:00pm. It's hosted by Alan Leach, who'll be calling the shots throughout the night. If you've never come across it, it's not your usual pen-and-paper pub quiz. The 'speed' part is the point: you're racing against the clock to get your answers in, so it's as much about how quickly you can think on your feet as it is about what you actually know. It's a faster, more active way of doing a quiz than the slow drip of a traditional one, and it usually means the whole thing moves along with a bit more energy.
There are prizes on the line, and the beer is flowing, so it works just as well as a proper night out as it does as a competitive one. You'll want to bring a few mates along to share the load, because the questions cover a fair bit of ground and having a few different heads in the room usually helps when you're working against the timer. It's the kind of thing that's easy to drop into on a Thursday night without needing a whole plan around it.

The Ackhorne is at 9 Saint Martin's Lane, YO1 6LR, right in the heart of the city, so it's an easy spot to get to. It costs £2 to play, and the session runs from 8:00pm to 11:00pm, so you've got a good three hours of it to get through. If you're in York and fancy a quiz that doesn't drag, that's the one.
