Masterclass on South African wines with overnight stay, tasting and Michelin-starred dining at The Black Swan.
The Black Swan at Oldstead is hosting a South African Wine Masterclass on 23 October, part of The Oldstead Wine Series. It's not a one-night thing, though — the whole experience runs across the 23rd and 24th, so you're looking at a full weekend rather than just an evening out.
The core of it is the masterclass itself, which focuses on South African wines. You'll spend the session tasting through a selection from the region, with the guidance to walk you through the different styles and producers. It's the kind of thing that works best when you've got the time to actually sit with the wines and talk them through, rather than rushing through a few glasses between courses.
That's where the overnight stay comes in. Instead of heading home after the tasting, you stay over at The Black Swan, which turns the masterclass into a proper getaway. The dining is a big part of the package, too: you'll have a meal at the restaurant, which holds a Michelin star, so the food is handled with the same level of attention as the wine. Between the tasting, the dinner, and the room, it's a full weekend built around the two.
