Single Section Binding with Soft and Hard Covers

Thin Ice Press is running a single-section bookbinding workshop on Saturday 29 August, from 10:00 to 17:00. It's a full day's session at the York Centre for Print, and it's designed as a practical introduction to the craft, so it works as well for absolute beginners as it does for anyone who's already had a go at bookbinding.

Over the course of the day, you'll learn how to sew a single section, how to construct different types of cover, and how to assemble the whole thing into a finished book. You'll leave with your own handmade hard-cover and soft-cover notebooks, and all the equipment and materials are provided, so you don't need to bring anything with you. Lunch and refreshments are included too, which is handy when you're spending the whole day on one project.

Thin Ice Press is the York Centre for Print, and they do more than just workshops. They offer memberships, equipment hire, events, and exhibition space, with a programme that covers letterpress, linocut, risograph, and bookbinding. This session is the first part of a three-workshop series: the second is 'Multi-Section Binding with Hard Covers' on Saturday 19 September, and the third is 'Bookbinding: Slipcases' on Saturday 24 October.

A single place is £140, or you can book the complete three-workshop series for £395, which includes a Thin Ice Press apron. The workshop runs from 10:00 to 17:00 on Saturday 29 August at Thin Ice Press, the York Centre for Print.
