A night of comedy improv with short-form, long-form and improv jam sessions presented by She Says...Improv.
She Says Improv are bringing their Improv Buffet to Friargate Theatre on Saturday 19 September, a night that pulls together a few different ways of doing improv in one sitting. The name fits the format: they've split the evening into courses, with a half of short-form starters and a half of long-form to follow, so you get a bit of both styles rather than one or the other.
If you're not familiar with the difference, short-form is the fast-paced stuff—quick games, rapid-fire suggestions, and scenes that shift in a heartbeat. Long-form takes a single suggestion and stretches it out into a longer, connected piece, letting characters and stories build over time. Having both on the same bill means the night keeps moving, switching between the punchy, game-led bits and the more expansive scenes.
There's a bonus half for anyone who wants to get involved, too: an Improv Jam session where you can get stuck in yourself. And throughout the night, the audience gets a few treats brought to the stage that they describe as never-seen-before—and never-to-be-seen-again—which is the whole point of improv. Everything is made up on the spot, so it only exists for that one room on that one night.

It's presented by She Says Improv, and the whole thing runs from 7:30pm to 9:45pm at Friargate Theatre on Lower Friargate, YO1 9SL. If you've never seen improv live, this is a good way to see a few different versions of it in one go.
