A 2.5-hour needle-felting workshop where participants create a rose picture in the Orangery at Sledmere House and Gardens, suitable for beginners and experienced crafters.
Brenda, the York textile artist behind Felty and Fabulous, is running a Rose Needlefelt Workshop at Sledmere House and Gardens on Wednesday 1 July. It's a 2.5-hour session held in the Orangery, and the whole thing is about making a needlefelt picture of a rose.
The starting point is the Walled Garden at Sledmere, with the rose displays there serving as the inspiration. You'll begin by sketching out your ideas, then move into the 2D needlefelting itself, using a vintage blanket as your base. From there, you can add extra detail and embellishment with embroidery if you fancy it. Brenda will be on hand throughout to talk you through the techniques, so it's as much about learning the process as it is about finishing the piece.
It's open to everyone, whether you've never touched a needle before or you've been felting for years. It's a family-friendly session, and it'll suit anyone with an interest in art and textiles. You'll leave with your own rose picture and a better handle on how 2D needlefelting works.

The workshop runs from 10:30 to 13:00, and your ticket includes entry to Sledmere's Parkland and Gardens, so you can wander the grounds before or after. It's a paid event, and you'll need to book your place in advance.
