A night of feel-good comedy catharsis with Riona O'Connor and Olga Thompson, blending musical theatre, stand-up and character comedy.
Riona O'Connor and Olga Thompson bring their double bill Middle Rage to York Barbican on Friday 14 May 2027, starting at 7pm. It's a night of feel-good comedy catharsis, and the title gives you a fair idea of the territory they're covering. They describe it as sitting at the intersection of comedy and cholesterol, musical theatre and menopausal misfits, and stand-up and vaginal atrophy. The tagline is 'Two Women. Two Shows. Zero Chill.'
On the stage, that translates to savagely funny songs, hilarious characters and real-life rage, with the aim of leaving the audience feeling fabulous, fearless and feral. It's a double bill, so you're getting two distinct acts in one night rather than a single joint show.
Riona O'Connor is a creator, voice-over artist, comedy songwriter, actor and singer, originally from County Kerry in Ireland. Olga Thompson is a Greek Cypriot character comedienne, actor, presenter, singer and writer, widely recognised for her character skits and comedic brilliance. Between them, they cover a lot of ground: songwriting, character work, and stand-up, all tied together by the shared theme of the middle years. The night is for ages 16 and over.

It's a Friday night at the Barbican, so it works as a proper night out. The show starts at 7pm, and the whole thing is built around that idea of a good laugh and a bit of a release. If you're in the mood for comedy that doesn't shy away from the messy, frustrating, and funny parts of getting older, this is the one to keep on your radar.
