Pilgrimage for Creation

York Minster is hosting a Pilgrimage for Creation on Saturday 19 September, a guided walk through the cathedral led by its own clergy. It's timed for Creationtide, the season of prayer and reflection on the natural world, and it's designed as a slow, mindful journey rather than a quick tour. The idea is to take your time, notice what's around you, and think about the generations of pilgrims who've walked these same floors over the centuries.

The Minster itself is a good place for that kind of thing. It's a masterpiece of stained glass and stone that's been at the heart of Christianity in the north of England since the 7th century, so there's plenty to look at if you're actually paying attention. The walk is meant for reflection, renewal, and gratitude, and it ends with Choral Evensong, so you'll be moving from the quiet of the pilgrimage straight into the music of the choir.

There's a bit more to the cathedral this year, too. Throughout 2026, the Minster is marking the 800th anniversary of the canonisation of St William of York, the city's patron saint, whose tomb is in the Crypt. The pilgrimage weaves together spirituality, faith, and heritage, so it's as much about the building's history as it is about the prayer.
