A weekly free, timed 5K community run on the tarmac paths of York Racecourse, open to all ages and abilities.
ParkRun York is back at York Racecourse this Saturday, 26 September, for another weekly 5K. It's a free, timed 5,000-metre course open to everyone, run and timed by volunteers, and it follows the same parkrun format you'll find across the country. If you've never done one, the idea is simple: you run, walk or jog the distance at your own pace, and you get a time for your effort regardless of how long it takes you.
The course itself runs on the tarmac paths of the racecourse, which means it's a flat, hard surface underfoot rather than grass or trail. You'll find the start and finish over on the Cherry Lane and Tadcaster Road side, opposite the Grandstand, so if you're coming from the city centre, that's the side you'll want to aim for. The postcode is YO23 1EX.
Because it's a weekly thing, there's no need to commit to a one-off race day. It's free to enter, and you can turn up as often or as little as you like. Whether you're training for something bigger or just fancy a bit of movement on a Saturday morning, it's as low-pressure as it gets.
Every week we pick ๐ the 5 best ๐ things to do in York and send them to your inbox. Just one weekly email, no spam.

It kicks off every Saturday morning with a 9am start, so give yourself a few minutes to get there and find your bearings before the whistle goes. The course is 5K, the timing is handled by volunteers, and it's open to all ages and abilities. If you're looking for a way to get out on a Saturday morning without spending a penny, this is a good place to start.
