A traditional music and storytelling show reimagining the Advent and Christmas season through the eyes of 7th-century Celtic Christians, performed in historic churches.
Olivia Graham brings Celtic Carols by Candlelight to Holy Trinity Goodramgate on Sunday 13 December, with two shows that evening at 17:30 and 19:30. It's an hour of traditional music and storytelling that looks at the Advent and Christmas season through the eyes of the Celtic Christians who lived in the North in the 7th century.
The carols, hymns, and chants are drawn from historical sources and woven into the tales of the saints of Northumbria. Graham performs them in the ancient tongues of the British Isles, accompanied by a range of traditional instruments. She's an independent folk musician and a modern-day bard, and she created the show specifically for historic churches. It's now in its third year of touring, following sell-out performances in 2025.
Holy Trinity Goodramgate fits the bill. The church is over 800 years old and holds one of the finest surviving examples of historic box pews in the country, so the setting is as much a part of the evening as the music. The show runs for about an hour, and the doors open half an hour before each start.
