Multi-Section Binding with Hard Covers

Thin Ice Press is running a Multi-Section Binding with Hard Covers workshop on Saturday 19 September, from 10:00 to 17:00. It's a full day of hands-on work at the York Centre for Print, and you'll leave with a proper hardback book you've made yourself.

If you've never heard of them, Thin Ice Press is York's hub for print and bookbinding. They've got memberships, equipment hire, and a steady stream of workshops and events, and they run regular clubs too. Their sessions cover a fair bit of ground — letterpress, linocut, risograph, and Japanese bookbinding — and the children's letterpress session is led by the Centre's Director, Professor Helen Smith. This one is a practical, hands-on day that builds on the basics of bookbinding, and it's all about the techniques used to put together larger, more durable books with multiple sewn sections and hard covers.

It's aimed at anyone with some bookbinding experience, like if you've already done the Single Section Binding workshop they run, but it's also open to beginners who fancy a bit of a creative challenge. You don't need to bring your own kit; all the equipment and materials are provided, and lunch and refreshments are included in the price, so you can just turn up and get stuck in.

Booking the workshop on its own is £140, or you can go for the complete three-workshop programme for £395, which includes a Thin Ice Press apron. It runs from 10:00 to 17:00 on Saturday 19 September at Thin Ice Press: the York Centre for Print.
