Theatre tribute to Michael Jackson starring Ben Bowman, with live band and iconic dance routines.
Michael Starring Ben comes to York Barbican on Friday 16 October, a theatre tribute to Michael Jackson with Ben Bowman taking the lead. Bowman is billed as the UK's ultimate Michael Jackson tribute star, and the show is built around him looking and sounding like the King of Pop. He's spent years honing the routine to the point where audiences believe they're watching Jackson himself.
It's not just a one-man show. Bowman is backed by a live band, and the production brings in the costumes and the iconic dance routines to recreate Jackson's stage show. The setlist pulls from his biggest songs—Beat It, Billie Jean, Thriller, and Man in the Mirror are all in there—but it goes further than the solo hits. Each performance includes the songs of The Jackson 5, along with new arrangements and a light show.
Bowman describes the production as an authentic, lively and powerful re-creation of the King of Pop's stage show, and the live band means it's a full band sound rather than a playback. Between the costumes, the choreography and the light show, it's a full stage production rather than a simple tribute act. The set covers both the solo years and the early days with The Jackson 5, so it runs through a fair chunk of his career.
