A gala night by the Menfulness charity to raise awareness for men's mental health, featuring artists, film, dance, singers and conversation.
Menfulness Live! takes over the Grand Opera House on Saturday 29 August, a gala night put on by the charity Menfulness to raise awareness for men's mental health. It's a partnership between the charity and the venue, with the evening dedicated to the work the organisation does and the community it supports.
The programme is a bit of a variety show, pulling from a few different disciplines rather than sticking to one. There'll be artists, film, dance, singers and conversation, so it's a mixed bill that moves between performance and discussion throughout the night. The conversation side of things is where the awareness work sits, with the entertainment running alongside it.
The venue itself has a fair bit of history behind it. The Grand Opera House has been bringing West End theatre, comedy, variety and musicals to York since 1902, and over those years it's hosted some pretty big names β Dame Judi Dench, Sir Ian McKellen, Charlie Chaplin, Morecombe & Wise, and Laurel & Hardy have all played here. This gala night fits right into that variety tradition, with a line-up that jumps from one thing to another rather than staying in one lane.

It's a charity event, so the night is as much about the cause as the performances. If you're interested in men's mental health and want to see a variety of acts in one go, it's a good one to have on your radar for late August. The gala is on Saturday 29 August at the Grand Opera House in York.
