Interactive storytelling experience by HistoryRiot on life in Roman York, with performances at the Yorkshire Museum.
HistoryRiot are bringing their interactive storytelling to the Yorkshire Museum on Tuesday 11 August and Friday 14 August, as part of their Meet Me at the Yorkshire Museum series. This particular session focuses on life in Roman York, and it's a drop-in experience rather than a seated show, so you can wander in whenever suits you between 11am and 4pm on either day.
The whole thing is built around a Roman character standing on a real Roman mosaic, telling tales of the brave and the bold from the city's ancient past. It's not just a monologue, though — the stories are woven together with games and laughter, and it's designed to be interactive, so you're part of the experience rather than just watching it from the sidelines. The museum's own Roman collection provides the backdrop, and the session is suitable for all ages, which makes it an easy one to bring the kids along to.

HistoryRiot is a performance company that describes its work as connecting people to place and past through riotous performance and storytelling, and this session does exactly that by turning local history into something you can actually engage with. If you're around on the 11th or 14th, there are four performances throughout the day — at 11am, 12 noon, 1.30pm and 2.30pm — so you can time your visit to catch one of the full tellings, or just drop in at any point during the day.
