A life drawing class led by Rob Oldfield, inspired by John Flaxman, set within the exhibition 'Turner, Wedgwood & Beyond: Inspired by Flaxman'.
York Art Gallery is hosting a life drawing class on Saturday 3 October, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, led by York-based artist and tutor Rob Oldfield. The session is run from a live model, and the whole thing takes place inside the exhibition Turner, Wedgwood & Beyond: Inspired by Flaxman.
That exhibition is the first major show dedicated to the York-born draughtsman, sculptor and designer John Flaxman (1755-1826) in his home city, marking the bicentenary of his death. It brings together more than 100 works from 16 lenders. Flaxman's influence went well beyond his own fame: he worked alongside J.M.W. Turner, William Blake and Josiah Wedgwood, became the Royal Academy's first Professor of Sculpture, and left his mark on pottery, painting, metalwork and funerary monuments. The workshop draws on his distinctive linear drawings and his fascination with classical form, working through contour, proportion, rhythm and gesture.

It's pitched at all abilities, from experienced artists to those just curious to try life drawing, in a supportive and friendly gallery setting. Basic materials are supplied, though you can bring your own if you prefer. The session runs from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Saturday 3 October at York Art Gallery, Exhibition Square, York YO1 7EW. Tickets are £15 per person, adults only (18+), and the price includes general admission to the gallery and the Turner, Wedgwood & Beyond exhibition.
