Adult life drawing workshop led by York-based artist Rob Oldfield, with a live model and a reproduction from the gallery collection.
York Art Gallery is hosting another adult life drawing session on Saturday 10 October, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. It's part of a regular series run on the second Saturday of each month, so if you can't make this one, there'll be another shortly after. The session is led by York-based artist and tutor Rob Oldfield, who's spent years on both sides of the easel — modelling for life classes as well as teaching the subject to his students.
There's a specific setup to these workshops. Alongside the live model, a reproduction of a work from the gallery's own collection is put on view to act as a second point of reference and a bit of inspiration for the session. Through autumn and winter, those works are drawn from Turner, Wedgwood & Beyond: Inspired by Flaxman, an exhibition celebrating the life and legacy of the York-born designer and artist John Flaxman, and looking at his influence on fellow artists and design movements since the eighteenth century. So you've got the live model in the room and a Flaxman-related work on the wall to draw from at the same time.
Oldfield pitches the room as a supportive, friendly environment, and it's aimed at people new to life drawing as well as those who've been at it a while and are just honing their skills. Basic drawing materials are supplied, so you don't need to bring anything to get started, though you're more than welcome to bring your own if you have a particular set you prefer.
