Drop-in lantern-making workshops for children and families in preparation for the Lantern Procession on 6 December.
Ampleforth Abbey is running lantern-making workshops on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 November, both days from 10:00am to 5:00pm. They're held in preparation for the Abbey's Lantern Procession on Sunday 6 December, so the whole thing is built around that date. The idea is simple: you go in, make your own paper lantern, and then carry it home to bring along to the procession a week or so later.
It's a drop-in session, so there's no booking required—you just turn up when it suits you across the two days. The workshops are for children, and they'll need an adult to supervise them at all times, so it's a family outing rather than something to leave the kids to on their own. The cost is £3.50 per child, which covers the materials.

Ampleforth Abbey itself sits in acres of scenery and is home to the largest Benedictine community of monks in the UK, so it's a bit of a destination. If you're coming from York, it's at YO62 4EN. Between the two days, there's a good window to fit it in—Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 November, 10:00am to 5:00pm, with the procession following on Sunday 6 December.
