A hands-on masterclass where participants learn to make traditional chocolate truffles, temper chocolate and wrap their creations to take home.
York Cocoa Works is running an Introduction to Chocolate Masterclass on Tuesday 1 September, their first workshop for anyone wanting to get their hands on chocolate. It's pitched as a starter for budding chocolatiers or cake makers who want to understand how the stuff actually works, and it runs in a small group of one to sixteen people, so it's not a massive crowd.
Over the course of two and a half hours, you'll walk through making traditional chocolate truffles, learn how to temper chocolate, and see how to wrap your finished creations to take home. You also get the recipes, so you can repeat the whole thing in your own kitchen. It's part of the venue's wider Chocolate Masterclass Series, which follows the journey from cocoa bean to chocolate bar and covers tempering, ganache, and fillings like caramels and fondants, so this is the first step if you're planning to work your way through the rest.
It sits alongside a few other hands-on experiences at the chocolate café, from chocolate lollipop and bar making workshops to the Chocolate Manufactory Tasting Journey, so there's plenty to pick from if you're just starting out. Children under 12 have to be accompanied by a participating adult, and bookings are refunded if you cancel at least two days before the event.
