Guy Fawkes: The Final Hour

The York Dungeon is bringing in a new show for the summer: Guy Fawkes: The Final Hour, which opens on 18 July and runs through to 5 September 2026. It's a brand new addition to the dungeon's line-up, and the whole thing centres on York's most infamous son, Guy Fawkes, in the final hour before his execution.

The premise is simple enough: you step into the shadows and come face-to-face with Fawkes as he awaits his fate. The show asks whether he was a villain, a revolutionary, or just a man driven by conviction, and it digs into the untold story behind the Gunpowder Plot. There's one final revelation he shares before the end, so it's less of a history lesson and more of a confrontation with the man himself.

If you've spent any time in the city, you know how much of York's identity is tied up in the plot and the man who didn't get to blow up Parliament. This puts you right in the room with him, rather than just reading about it in a book or hearing it on a tour. It's a new show for 2026, so it's fresh material for the summer season.
