A trail of 70 ghostly wire-mesh sculptures with live storytellers across York Museum Gardens, King's Manor and Library Lawn, featuring immersive experiences and a night market.
Ghosts After Dark returns to York Museum Gardens from Wednesday 4 to Sunday 8 November, running five nights in a row. It's a bigger version of the trail that first came to the gardens in 2024, which brought together 46 of the wire-mesh ghosts from York BID's city-wide Ghosts in the Gardens trail into one spot. This time there are 70 sculptures in total, with 25 new ones added to the mix, all lit up among the trees, ruins and hidden corners of the gardens.
Six live storytellers are stationed along the route to bring York's ghosts to life against smoke and sound, including Dr Dorian Deathly of the Deathly Dark Tours, Mad Alice of the Bloody Tour of York, and the Wild Man of the Woods. There's also the immersive experience Brave The Cell and an interactive artwork by artist Lou Chapelle, plus the event's first night market. The trail now reaches beyond the Museum Gardens into the King's Manor courtyard, Library Lawn, and several other corners of the estate, which sits on significant Roman and medieval remains.
York BID's Carl Alsop says this edition takes what people liked about the first and makes it bigger, while York Museums Trust's Jocelyn Palmer describes the ghosts as a well-loved part of the city's autumnal calendar. It's delivered by York BID in partnership with York Museums Trust.

Tickets are £10 for adults and £2 for children. Each night runs from 5:30pm to 9:30pm, with timed entry slots until 8pm, and you'll want to allow about 90 minutes for the full walk. The route covers the Museum Gardens, King's Manor courtyard, Library Lawn, Anglian Tower, Edible Wood, Artists' Garden, St Olave's Churchyard, and the area beside York Art Gallery.
