Georgian Wine and Cheese Evening

Emma Moore is hosting a Georgian Wine and Cheese Evening at York Mansion House on Friday 7 August, from 19:00 to 21:00. It's a new addition to this year's York Georgian Festival, held in the Mansion House State Room, and it's built around the wines and cheeses that would have been on a Georgian dining table.

The main thing on the night is a guided tasting of six historic wines, each paired with an artisanal cheese. As you go through them, Moore talks about the wines the Georgian era loved and how the upper classes entertained back in the 18th century. You'll get a sense of the lavish eating and drinking habits of the time, and how certain wines became symbols of sophistication and status.

Moore is a York sommelier known as 'The Wine Lady', described as a wine and beer expert who runs tastings that are fun, engaging, and educational. She'll be leading the tasting and providing the historical context for each pairing, so it's as much about the stories behind the bottles as it is about the tasting itself.

It runs from 19:00 to 21:00 on Friday 7 August at York Mansion House, St Helen's Square, YO1 9QL. Tickets need to be booked in advance, so you'll want to sort yours before the night.
