A fun, child-friendly Georgian dance class in the State Room of York Mansion House, part of the York Georgian Festival.
Georgian Dancing for Little Lords and Ladies is at York Mansion House on Thursday 6 August, starting at 10.30am. It's a child-friendly Georgian dance class held in the State Room, and it kicks off the York Georgian Festival, which runs from Thursday 6 August to Monday 10 August 2026. The festival is the Mansion House's fourth annual celebration of 18th-century life, and it's staged across the city in collaboration with several York businesses.
The whole idea is to bring the Georgian world back to the streets: the fashions of dashing dandies, extravagant feasting, and romantic country dancing, all set against the city's 18th-century architecture. The dance class is just one part of a wider programme that runs over the five days. The big one this year is the York Georgian Ball at the Grand Assembly Rooms, which is being staged as a Masquerade Ball. There's also a return for Horrible Histories author Terry Deary, performances by the Galliard Dancers, and drills and displays from His Majesty's 33rd Regiment of Foot.

If you're looking for more than just the kids' class, the festival keeps going throughout the week. There are Georgian dance lessons at the Guildhall and a Georgian Wine and Cheese Evening back in the Mansion House State Room. The dancing for the little ones is the first thing on the calendar, so it's a good way to get the family involved right from the start.
