Gala Street Performance

Gala Street Performance is back at York Castle Museum on Tuesday 11 August, one of several dates this summer. It's part of the museum's Summer at York Castle Museum 2026 programme, which runs from 22 June to 6 September, and the performance itself takes place on the museum's recreation of Kirkgate, the Victorian street that's one of the museum's main draws.

The whole thing is built around the old York Gala, an annual tradition that ran for sixty years. The street performance brings that spirit back to Kirkgate with live entertainment, plenty of laughs, and acts inspired by the Victorian era. It's a recurring event rather than a one-off, so if you miss the 11th, you've got other Tuesdays to choose from: it runs every Tuesday from 21 July right through to 25 August, with confirmed dates on 28 July, 4 August, 11 August, 18 August, and 25 August. It's designed for all ages, so it works as much for families as it does for adults. And since it's part of the museum's wider summer line-up, you can fit it in alongside other things running at the same time, like Sounds of the Sixties, Castle Kitchen, and Creative Families. On the practical side, the performance is included in general admission, so there's no extra ticket to buy on top of your entry.
