A free live jazz and food finale event in the Bishopthorpe Road car park, closing the York Jazz Festival.
Fergus headlines the Free York Jazz Festival finale on Sunday 4 October, from 12pm to 7.30pm, in the shoppers' car park on Bishopthorpe Road. It's the closing event of the York Jazz Festival, and as the name says, it's free to attend.
The day turns a car park into a venue for residents and visitors, and it's not the first time Bishy Road has been used this way. It follows four Bishy Road Bazaars and a summer Street Party held on the road earlier in the year, so the idea of the street as a place for the community to gather is one the neighbourhood has seen in action a few times already this year.
Beppe Lombardo of the Bishopthorpe Road Traders Association says making the finale free means everyone can be part of it. The wider York Jazz Festival has become a regular fixture in the city's cultural calendar, bringing together national and local jazz performers across venues in York, and this finale is the final stop of the festival's run. The day is organised by the Bishopthorpe Road Traders Association and the York Jazz Festival, and it's funded by the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority's Vibrant and Sustainable High Streets Fund.
