Finding Charlotte – An Author Talk Researching Family History

Ben Robinson is talking about his debut book, Finding Charlotte, at Fabrication Crafts on Sunday 13 September, from 11.30 until 16.00. It's a free drop-in talk, so you can just turn up when you fancy it rather than booking in advance.

Finding Charlotte is a historical biography of Robinson's great-grandmother, Charlotte, and the talk is built around the personal archive of historical documents he used to write it. He'll be displaying those documents alongside the talk, so you get to see the actual records that sat behind the research. The story itself unfolds on the very streets of York, which makes it feel like something you can trace through the city rather than just read about.

The session is part of the Author Talks programme for Heritage Open Days at Fabrication Crafts, and copies of the book are available to buy in the Feasegate shop. There's also a family connection to the shop's own history: a relative of Robinson's worked as a french polisher at the Piano Factory, which was based at their Stonegate shop from the early 19th to the early 20th century.
