Family Potions Class

The Potions Academy is running its Family Potions Class in York, an immersive experience where you step into the role of an apprentice and learn to brew your own potions. A Potion Master leads the session, guiding you through the process while you pick up the story of Phileas Fry, the legendary alchemist the whole thing is built around. It's a hands-on bit of magic in the heart of the city, and you get to take home what you make.

It's designed for witches and wizards of all ages, so it works as a family outing. There are a couple of things to keep in mind before you book: it's not suitable for children under three, and anyone under fifteen needs to be accompanied by an adult. There's no strict dress code, but you're encouraged to lean into the theme with robes, cloaks, or whatever magical gear you've got at home.

Logistically, there's one important detail to note. The Academy is on the second floor of a historic building, so it isn't wheelchair accessible. It's also a popular one, especially on weekends and during school holidays, so booking ahead is a good shout if you've got a specific date in mind.

Prices start at £7.49 per person, and there are VIP packages available that include a voucher to spend at The Potions Cauldron shop in The Shambles, so you can pick up some extra supplies after the class.
